ComEd Celebrates Earth Month with $40,000 in Energy Efficiency Grants and Events
CHICAGO, April 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- ComEd is commemorating Earth Month in April by hosting energy-efficiency programs that will give away up to $40,000 to local schools and nonprofit organizations, and participating in half a dozen community educational events.
ComEd launched its second annual $10,000 Earth Month Challenge with local elementary schools in its service territory. Twenty schools and nearly 8,000 students will compete in this energy-efficiency competition which helps parents, teachers and students become more aware of how they use electricity each day, and how simple changes in their every-day habits can lead to greater energy efficiency—and savings. At the end of the Challenge, ComEd will award $10,000 in cash prizes to the top five performing schools, including a $5,000 grand prize.
In addition, through its new Earth Month Grant Contest ComEd will award a minimum of six individual grants, valued at up to $5,000 to nonprofits to implement an energy saving idea. Nonprofits can enter the contest by submitting a creative energy conservation idea or project that can help educate their community about the benefits of being energy-efficient.
"ComEd is committed to driving positive, sustainable change that benefits the environment," said Fidel Marquez, senior vice president of Governmental and External Affairs, ComEd. "These grants and community events are a fresh approach to inspire customers of all ages to become wiser users of energy to reduce their usage, save money and help the environment."
