ATLANTA, Nov. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- People, nonprofits, and business across the state will Come Together for the fifth annual Georgia Gives Day on Thursday, November 17, 2016. This statewide online fundraiser helps nonprofit organizations raise money so they can accomplish the important community work that government and the private sector can't always address.
"Communities across our country are dealing with many issues that tend to divide us, but curing cancer, providing access to parks and public art, caring for the elderly, or ensuring kids have a meal—these are issues that we can all agree are important to support, regardless of our individual political affiliations, race, country of origin or gender," said Karen Beavor, president and CEO of the Georgia Center for Nonprofits. "On Georgia Gives Day we can come together to support the incredible work going on right in our own back yard that makes our lives better, individually and collectively, every day."
With 2,500 nonprofits taking part, anyone can find an organization worth supporting—no matter what cause they find most important. Since the inaugural event in 2012, Georgia Gives Day has activated more than 54,000 donors, who have given upwards of $9 million to nonprofits across the state. Donors can give directly to nonprofits on Georgia Gives Day—or any day of the year—through GAgives.org by selecting the organization of their choice, or searching for a cause or locale closest to their hearts.
Georgia Gives Day also features a host of prize competitions that help donors' dollars go further: The Max My Gift challenge, AT&T Digital Life Power Hours, SunTrust Financial Well-Being Challenge and the Arby's End Childhood Hunger Challenge will boost totals for nonprofits fighting childhood hunger.
