Come on England: Irish Betting Firm Backs Fabio's Boys
DUBLIN, June 1, 2010 /PRNewswire/ --
- Spread-Betting Company SportsSpread.com Buries the Hatchet With Pledge to Refund Losing Outright Bets if England Lift the World Cup
A leading Irish betting firm has become the first company in Ireland to publicly declare its support for England in World Cup 2010.
Dublin-based SportsSpread.com has pledged to refund all losing World Cup winner bets if Fabio Capello's side lifts the World Cup trophy in South Africa on July 11th.
In a mature move recognising the dramatic change in Irish attitudes towards England's footballers, the spread betting firm says it wants to get behind The Three Lions and believes that most Irish fans feel the same way.
"We're being emotionally honest when it comes to the Ireland-England conundrum in the World Cup. As footie fans, we want to see the English players we've supported all year in the Premier League do well in the greatest show on Earth," said SportsSpread.com Managing Director Eoin Ryan.
The World Cup refund offer allows spread-betting clients to back the usual favourites like Argentina, Brazil and Spain with a safety net of a refund of their losses if England go on to lift the trophy.
With World Cup fever intensifying - and in the absence of the boys in Green - SportsSpread believes that Irish fans and punters alike will get firmly behind England this summer in South Africa.
"Obviously, we stand to lose a fortune if actually England win it but we're prepared to take it on the chin," Ryan said.
"Research suggests that a majority of Irish people would like to see England win the World Cup. Having England in the tournament to the very end would be huge for turnover and general interest levels."
And Ryan added: "All my staff will be wearing England jerseys during their matches and we'll have English flags all over the office. If England win, we will be cracking open the cans of Carling to celebrate with them".
SportsSpread's England World Cup refund offer is open to new and existing customers and applies to outright win bets struck before the tournament begins.
England are currently 6/1 third favourites to win the World Cup - behind Spain (4/1) and Brazil (5/1).
