Comcast NBCUniversal Awards $92,000 In Scholarships To 83 New Jersey High School Seniors

"Our Leaders and Achievers Scholarship winners exemplify leadership and are committed to academic excellence and community service," said Charisse R. Lillie, Fellow and Vice President of Community Investment, Comcast Corporation and President, Comcast Foundation. "We are honored to recognize their achievements, and excited to support them as they continue their educational journeys."

Comcast, joined by New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno, recognized the students at a special event held at the Trenton War Memorial today. The recipients each received a $1,000 scholarship and one student, Sophia Frank, a resident of Carteret and student at Carteret High School, was selected to receive a $10,000 Comcast Founders Scholarship - instituted in honor of Ralph J. Roberts, Founder and Chairman Emeritus of Comcast Corporation. After a prize drawing, 10 students also received Samsung Galaxy tablets for use at college.

"One common thread most successful people share is their strong commitment to getting involved and giving back to their communities. It is never too early to begin volunteering and starting an enriching, civic-minded path that will lead to great experiences all the while benefitting our state," said Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno. "It is clear the award recipients this year have gone above and beyond not only with their academics and extracurricular activities, but also with their compassion and altruism for others in their communities. I commend them for their great work and strongly encourage them to take what they have learned thus far in life and build upon it on whatever path they may choose. Let them continue to inspire others and lead by example."

The Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program provides scholarships to students who strive to achieve their full potential, who are catalysts for positive change in their communities, who are involved in their schools, and who serve as models for their fellow students. The philosophy behind the program is to give young people every opportunity to prepare for the future and to engage them in their communities. The program also demonstrates the importance of civic involvement, and the value placed on civic involvement by the business community.
