Comcast Cares Day Lends a Hand to Michigan Communities
Ninth Annual Day of Giving Expected to Attract 2,400 Volunteers Statewide
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Comcast, one of the nation's leading providers of entertainment, information and communication products and services, today announced that it expects approximately 2,400 volunteers to turn out for its ninth annual "Comcast Cares Day" community service program in Michigan. During the week of April 19 and culminating with 20 simultaneous community projects across the state on Saturday, April 24, local Comcast employees and their families and friends will lend a hand at various nonprofit organizations to perform community improvement activities, including: clearing a nature trail and wildlife refuge in celebration of Earth Day; assisting at a citywide literacy fair; cleaning and beautifying neighborhoods; and sorting and packing food for the needy at multiple food banks.
"Each year, I am proud to join thousands of Comcast employees and volunteers participating in Comcast Cares Day projects across the country," said Comcast Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brian L. Roberts. "It is truly inspiring to be a part of such a collaborative effort that helps so many people and organizations in the communities we serve."
Nationwide, more than 55,000 Comcast volunteers will participate in this annual day of service, which is one of the largest single days of corporate volunteer efforts in the country. Comcast Cares Day is one way that Comcast helps to power dreams and demonstrate a year-round commitment to making a difference in the communities it serves.
"Comcast has a proven track record of giving back to the communities in which our employees reside and work, and this year's Comcast Cares Day efforts will help 24 different organizations across Michigan," said Tom Coughlin, Senior Vice President for Comcast's Michigan Region. "As residents continue to overcome the economic challenges facing our state, I'm grateful to the 2,400 volunteers who will be donating their time to help make a difference."
The Comcast Foundation will also provide grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of each employee, family member and friend who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day.
