Comcast Business Named Exclusive Network Services Provider for Reston Business Incubator Refraction
Agreement Brings Gigabit Ethernet, Cloud-based Voice and TV Services to Dozens of Member Businesses
WASHINGTON, May 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Comcast Business today announced that it has been named the exclusive network services provider for Refraction, a rapidly-growing coworking community in the heart of Reston, Virginia. In addition to innovative cloud-based voice and TV solutions, all startup and entrepreneur members at Refraction receive access to a 1 Gigabit-per-second (Gbps) Ethernet Dedicated Internet line from Comcast Business capable of scaling to 10 Gbps of capacity.
Refraction is a unique coworking community that brings together seasoned technology startups, veteran entrepreneurs, nonprofit organizations and artists from across northern Virginia who are established visionaries and changemakers within their respective fields. With 35 companies representing 165 members, Refraction works closely with both the public and private sector to quickly bring new services to market that provide better solutions for local businesses.
A significant portion of the Refraction community is comprised of venture-backed software-as-a-service (SaaS) companies for which a connection to internal and external-facing apps and programs is essential to their daily operations. Beyond supporting traditional business activities by enabling access to online financial and educational tools, Comcast Business services are used for more uncommon and creative tasks, such as inspiring coworkers' creativity through the use of 3D printers or utilizing Wi-Fi to fly drones around the campus grounds.
"Reston has a long history in technology, with some of the original Internet companies still residing only a few miles away," said Rae Stott, director of Refraction. "Advanced technology services are vital to ensuring that our startups and entrepreneurs are able to run lean and agile businesses. Our local Comcast Business team is an integral part of our community and has ensured that we are well-equipped to accommodate technology demands that may arise."
In addition to a 1 Gbps Ethernet Dedicated Internet service from Comcast Business that supports the organization's internal and external network activity and Wi-Fi service, Refraction members have access to Comcast Business VoiceEdge™, an easy-to-use, cloud-based voice and unified communications solution that keeps entrepreneurs connected with HD-quality voice service and innovative features like a mobile app, telephony toolbar and "be anywhere" call forwarding. Comcast Business TV services are also located in several breakout spaces throughout the coworking community.
"Even today's largest enterprises came on the scene as startups, which is why it's so important to us to establish relationships with organizations like Refraction that support entrepreneurs in dreaming big and achieving their goals," said Byron Cantrall, regional vice president for Comcast Business. "We are committed to small businesses and proactively invest in our network so they have access to the tools and technologies that can bring their businesses to the next level."
