Comarco Sues Apple, Inc. Alleges Infringement Of A Comarco Power Charging Patent
LAKE FOREST, Calif., Feb. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Comarco, Inc. (OTC: CMRO.PK) (the "Company") today announced that on January 30, 2015, it filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Apple Inc. in the United States District Court for the Central District of California. The complaint alleges that Apple products sold in the United States utilizing the Apple Lightning® power supply adapter system, including most iPad®, iPhone®, and iPod® products, infringe the Company's patented intellectual property. This lawsuit represents Comarco's most significant enforcement effort to date, and demonstrates the Company's ongoing and accelerating efforts to methodically pursue those companies that the Company believes have infringed on the intellectual property estate that the Company has developed over the last 20 years.
Originally developed for its proprietary line of electronic device charging solutions, the Company's technology resulted from significant research and development investments to solve the unique challenges of enabling a single power adapter to charge multiple devices using a variety of power sources (AC wall outlets, DC sources in cars and airplanes, and computer USB ports). Until recently, Comarco sold its proprietary ChargeSource® line of multi-function universal mobile power adapters, which could simultaneously power and charge multiple rechargeable mobile devices. However, the Company was forced to abandon ongoing product sales due to the proliferation of unlicensed products that it believes utilize and infringe on the Company's proprietary intellectual property.
Over the prior twelve months, and as previously announced, the Company's enhanced litigation efforts have resulted in settlements with ACCO Brands USA LLC and its Kensington Computer Products Group division and Chicony Power Technology Co., LTD.
