Nationally, French Bulldog Holds On To The Top Spot
NEW YORK, March 20, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- For the third year in a row, the French Bulldog took Columbus' top spot in the American Kennel Club's (AKC®) 2023 ranking of the most popular AKC-recognized dog breeds in the U.S.
The French Bulldog was also recognized as the #1 pup in New York City and Washington, D.C.
While the Frenchie stayed at number one, other breeds are climbing up the charts. The Shih Tzu, which took the top prize at the AKC National Championship this past December, is now the eighth most popular breed, while the Rottweiler now sits at the number five spot on the list.
"It's no surprise that these two breeds have grown in popularity. Rottweilers are very affectionate and playful despite their size," said AKC Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo. "Shih Tzus are excellent companion dogs. They are happy to just sit on their owner's lap and relax."
