WOODINVILLE, Wash., June 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The 11th Annual Columbia Winery Charity Walk & Run will take place at Columbia Winery on Saturday, August 19, 2017. The 10K Run, 5K Walk/Run, and Kids Dash are expected to bring together more than 1,400 participants to Woodinville Wine Country. The Charity Walk & Run is a part of the Auction of Washington Wines non-profit wine event. Columbia Winery has set a goal to generate over $130,000 in donations raised for uncompensated care at Seattle Children's Hospital in 2017.
"Every year, I am humbled by all those who dedicate themselves to supporting Seattle Children's Hospital through the Columbia Winery Walk & Run," said Columbia Winery Winemaker Sean Hails. "I look forward to congratulating all the participants, their families and their supporters at the finish line or as they celebrate with us at the winery afterward."
Seattle Children's Hospital commits to providing excellent pediatric care for all children regardless of their family's financial situation. In 2016 alone, Seattle Children's Hospital provided more than $126 million in uncompensated care to patients in Washington, Alaska, Montana, Idaho and other surrounding states. Of the more than 200,000 patients treated at Seattle Children's main campus each year, 65 percent need financial assistance.
"Our goal is to provide world-class, uncompensated care that ensures families are never put in the position to decide if they can afford a child's medical treatment," said Aileen Kelly, Executive Director of the Seattle Children's Hospital Guild Association. "Columbia Winery has been a critical partner in meeting this ever-growing need and the funds raised from thousands of generous participants in this annual event truly make a difference in these children's lives. I am continually honored and inspired by the support our community shows for our patients."
In addition to hosting the Columbia Winery Charity Walk & Run, Columbia Winery will also donate $4 per case (up to $35,000) of wine sold in Oregon and Washington from July 1 through August 31 to support the cause. Columbia Winery has helped generate more than $853,000 to benefit Seattle Children's Hospital to date and has a goal of raising $1 million donated by 2018.
The Columbia Winery Charity Walk & Run has been a cornerstone of the Auction of Washington Wines for more than a decade and has historically been the largest single donation announced at the event. Taking place over four days, the Auction of Washington Wines is the Northwest region's most prestigious charity wine event and will be celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The weekend culminates with The Gala grand finale event in the evening following the Columbia Winery Walk & Run on Saturday, August 19.
The race begins and ends at Columbia Winery, with a route traveling through the heart of Woodinville Wine Country.
