NEW YORK, March 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Columbia Engineering announced today the launch of its first coding bootcamp in partnership with Trilogy Education Services. Geared toward adult learners and working professionals, this 24-week, part-time program will cover the front-end and back-end skills necessary to become a proficient full stack developer, including the basics of coding, algorithms and data structure as well as intensive training in JavaScript, Node.js, HTML, CSS, jQuery, and Java. Enrollment is now open for classes beginning June 5, 2018 at https://bootcamp.cvn.columbia.edu/.
"New York City is home to many of the industries that drive the national and international economies. As technology continues to play a central role in how work gets done, New York is seeing a rapid shift in the skills required for professional success. This mirrors the national trends, which show that web development is one of the fastest growing careers in today's economy with a projected 15% percent growth by 2026," said Professor Soulaymane Kachani, Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning at Columbia University. "We are proud to partner with Trilogy to expand access to the digital skills New Yorkers need."
Learners who complete the bootcamp will receive a certificate of completion from Columbia Engineering, as well as career-planning services, portfolio reviews, and extensive support. In addition to classroom instruction, learners will spend about 20 hours a week on outside projects and experiential learning activities.
"We look forward to partnering with Columbia University to teach New York City professionals the web and software development skills sought most by New York City-area employers," said Dan Sommer, CEO and Founder of Trilogy Education Services. "The New York Metro area has the highest employment level for web developers in the country. In the previous 12 months, local employers struggled to fill nearly 180,000 open job positions requiring some level of software development as a skill. This program will enable hundreds of New Yorkers to pursue these opportunities, helping fill critical talent gaps in the city's economy."
"Trilogy's partner network and proven methodologies make them the ideal partner to help position Columbia Engineering's learners for success in the digital economy," said Alexis Seeley, Executive Director of Columbia Video Network (CVN).
Classes will take place on campus at Columbia University. In addition to web development, Columbia Engineering plans to partner with Trilogy to offer additional bootcamps in Cybersecurity, Analytics, and User Experience/User Interface (UX/UI) Design.
