Colombia ranks among the 20 top investment destinations in Latin America for its IT, Software and BPO Industries
MIAMI, April 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- ProColombia -- Colombia's economy ranks fifth in Latin America according to the AT Kearney Global Services Location Index report of 2016 that analyzed data from the year before in regards of IT, Software and BPO sectors. Colombia was the country that climbed most positions in this ranking; in 2015 it was in position 43, in 2016 the country is ranked 20th overall. The study includes over 55 countries with the strongest underlying fundamentals to potentially deliver information technology (IT), business process outsourcing (BPO), and voice services. The countries were evaluated against 38 measurements across three major categories: Financial attractiveness, people skills and availability, and business environment.
A solid gain in IT and BPO experience, development in the country´s infrastructure, improvements in financial attractiveness largely fueled by the depreciation of the peso, a high connectivity, and a qualified and competitive workforce are some of the key factors that have enabled the country to position itself as a world-class IT producer.
Colombia is the third country with most IT services sales in Latin America after Brazil and Mexico, with a total of US$ 2.5 billion. The country is the second, after Mexico, for services offered in Spanish. According to IDC, exports of IT services in the last five years have registered an average sustained growth of 18%. The main lines of business software sales are application development (20%), marketing applications (17.7%) software for infrastructure systems ( 15.8 %). (IDC 2015)
According to the World Competitiveness 2014 ranking of the Institute for Management Development (IMD), Colombia has the best-trained labor force in South America. In terms of high connectivity, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology has increased Colombia´s connectivity expanding the submarine cables network, from 5 to 10 cables in 4 years and supporting 4G technology, allowing a faster and stable data transmission with the Caribbean, Central and North America
