"College students are a unique bunch. They go to school, often work one, if not two, jobs and many still find the time in their busy schedules to give back to their community by volunteering," says Brian Cartier, CAE, NACS chief executive officer. "Our whole intent in developing National Student Day was simply to help our member stores plan an organized way to say 'thank you' to students for the volunteer efforts they put forth."
As part of National Student Day, NACS sponsors a national contest in which students can submit stories chronicling a way they gave back to their community and be entered to win a variety of prizes including scholarships and iPads.
"Today many participating college stores are hosting special events, from author signings to special sales; from bringing exceptional student volunteers to the store for recognition to charity drives, the variety is exciting," said Charles Schmidt, NACS public relations director. "And, it's all just to say thank you!"
