Social work graduates who are looking for more specialized education often go on to get a Master's in Social Work. However, for many of these students, they are also working, hindering their ability to attend school full-time and on-campus. That's why online MSW programs are growing in popularity. These programs allow students to study when and how they want while completing their degree in their own community. College Choice has made this easier by providing this ranking specifically for online students.
"By pursuing an online MSW, you'll be able to get that professional edge and move into deeper specializations like children and families, trauma and interpersonal violence counseling, mental health and addiction counseling, or care concerning the health of the aging. And the good news is that your degree need be no less prestigious or rigorous, just different—one that fit your needs," Christian Amondson, Managing Editor of College Choice, said at the ranking's release.
College Choice created its 2016 ranking for Best Online Master's in Social Work using information that was found on an individual school's website and independent educational statistics organizations like the National Center for Educational Statistics. The Council for Social Work Education, an independent accreditor for social work program, was also used to ensure the best programs were included on the list. Major factors included tuition cost and fees, special accreditation, academic reputation, time to completion, online program options, and graduation rate.
