The demand for Nurse Practitioners has grown in the past decade, and for good reason. They are fast filling the need for more medical professionals to provide aide in rural areas where it is needed the most. This has made it easier than ever for people who are seeking medical treatment but cannot afford a doctor to get medical help.
Christian Amondson, Managing Editor of College Choice, had this to say of the ranking: "Unlike Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners are advanced nurses who are qualified to see patients, prescribe medications, order X-rays and lab tests, and diagnose and treat certain maladies without the direct supervision of a doctor. In other words, they'd be a pretty good person to call in the case of unexpected abdominal pain! And for those interested in the nursing profession, the Nurse Practitioner designation is the highest designation you can achieve."
The Best Nurse Practitioner Programs 2016 rankings are based on several sources, the most important being a nationwide survey that was conducted and released by the Higher Education Research Institute at UCLA. This survey had freshmen students at various institutions rate everything from financial aid offerings to student satisfaction to even graduate success rates for gainful employment. Other information was culled from the schools' websites, the National Center for Education Statistics and U.S. News and World Report. This guarantees that the rankings are accurate, current and full of useful information for potential students.
The University of Washington takes top honors in this ranking. John Hopkins University and the University of Pennsylvania round out the top three.
