Information technology professionals are skilled in handling large amounts of data, creating and securing computer networks, navigating web-based technologies, creating custom software solutions, and much, much more. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, information technology professions are poised to grow at a rate of 12 percent by 2024, much faster than average. And median earnings for these professions can approach six figures, even for those with a bachelor's degree only.
"As our lives increasingly depend on not only computers but also the information they store, transmit, and communicate, so does our need for professionals who can manage, interpret, troubleshoot, and protect these resources," Christian Amondson, Managing Editor of College Choice, said of the ranking. "We devised these information technology rankings in order to help prospective students interested or already involved in the field to discover relevant schools and programs."
College Choice developed its list by examining data on institutional excellence and return on investment from the Higher Education Research Institute at UCLA, U.S. News & World Report, the National Center for Education Statistics, and Payscale.
