Small business accounts for nearly 40 percent of the U.S. Gross National Product. Global studies have shown that entrepreneurs are crucial to economic growth. The key to entrepreneurial success is more than a great idea. It takes excellent operational and financial execution coupled with entrepreneurial energy.
"The traditional view of an entrepreneurship is changing," Christian Amondson, Managing Editor of College Choice, said of the ranking. "It is no longer just pulling yourself up by your bootstraps and creating something out of nothing, with no specialized training or education. Now, more and more future entrepreneurs are getting their degree, helping them gain valuable insights from professors and experts on management, business, finance, and operations."
College Choice developed its list by examining data on institutional excellence and return on investment from U.S. News & World Report, the National Center for Education Statistics, and Payscale. Return on investment refers to the boost in income a graduate from each program can expect from their degree—weighed against how much they pay in tuition. Institutional excellence is an aggregate measure that reflects a variety of statistics including endowment, entering student test scores, and student-to-faculty ratio.
