Accountants are key members of many industries and sectors, from government nonprofits to Fortune 500 companies, from healthcare to education. The fact is, without the accurate number crunching of countless accountants across the country, it may not be hyperbole to say our system would collapse. Not only is the position important for our society, it is a job that pays well and has a high satisfaction rate. And now, with the explosion of online learning, access into this job is all the more convenient.
"Online programs in accounting are an affordable, accessible, and flexible way to earn an associate degree, especially if you find yourself in a situation that makes going back to school either logistically or financially problematic," Christian Amondson, Managing Editor of College Choice, said of the ranking. "Despite the stigma online programs once held, they have mostly shed those stereotypes and have increasingly solid reputations."
College Choice developed its list by comparing the academic reputation, student satisfaction, affordability, and average annual salary of graduates from online AA/AS in Accounting programs across the country. PayScale, university and colleges' websites, and nationally recognized U.S. News & World Report and The National Center for Education Statistics are the data sources for this list.
The ranking for the 50 Best Online Associate's in Accounting Degrees for 2017 finds University of Alaska in Fairbanks in the top spot. Indiana Wesleyan University Marion, Indiana is in second, and Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, New Hampshire comes in at third.
