According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, careers in computer and information technology occupations are set to grow in the double-digit percentages in the next decade. That's the result of the growth of cloud computing, "big data," and the spread of mobile computing. Median pay can start in the six figures, but there's a trick to it: you'll need a master's degree or higher.
"Since this is an especially dynamic and developing field, the potential to advance quickly—both in responsibility as well as earnings—is quite high," Christian Amondson, Managing Editor of College Choice, said of the ranking. "A master's degree in the field can go a long way in helping you advance."
College Choice developed its list by looking at data from the Higher Education Research Institute at UCLA, U.S. News & World Report, the National Center for Education Statistics, and Payscale.
The ranking for the 35 Best Online Master's in Information Technology for 2017 finds Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the top spot. University of Washington is in second, and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign rounds out the top three.
