In a changing economy and amidst wrangling over education budgets, the burden on teachers can be quite heavy. Not only do elementary teachers have to develop engaging content to teach, but they also have to manage sometimes upwards of 30 kids. Further, many schools face shortages of teachers. The need for good elementary education programs has never been greater.
"The stress being placed on research-based and data-driven teaching means that new elementary teachers need to be equipped as well as possible," Christian Amondson, Managing Editor of College Choice, said of the ranking. "We take our education-related rankings very seriously, because we want to help future teachers find the best education that they can."
College Choice developed its list by looking at three different factors: academic quality, return on investment, and program quality. Data was collected from a variety of publicly accessible sites and databases, including U.S. News & World Report, the National Center for Education Statistics, individual college websites, and the National Council for Teacher Quality rankings from 2016.
