The state of Pennsylvania has a long and interesting history in the field of education—it is home to the first-ever university in the country, the first-ever medical school, and the first-ever HBCU (Historically Black College/University). With such a heritage in higher education, appearing on this list of the best Pennsylvanian colleges is a real distinction.
"As with any investment, you want to get as much value out as possible compared to what you put in," Christian Amondson, Managing Editor of College Choice, said of the ranking. "Of course, future college students need to consider a variety of factors when choosing their school, but how much it will cost and how much they'll earn afterward are valuable considerations. That's why we incorporate return on investment in our ranking methodology."
College Choice developed its list by looking at academic quality along with return on investment—the differential between tuition costs and average early career earnings.
The ranking for the 25 Best Colleges in Pennsylvania finds University of Pennsylvania in the top spot. Swarthmore College is in second, and Haverford College rounds out the top three.
