College Choice Releases 2016 Ranking of the Best Bachelor's in Engineering Degree Programs
EUGENE, Ore., May 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- College Choice (http://www.collegechoice.net/), an independent college search and rankings website, has published a ranking of the top fifty bachelor's degrees in engineering in the United States (http://www.collegechoice.net/rankings/best-bachelors-degrees-in-engineering-2016/).
Harvey Mudd College, University of California Berkeley, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology occupy the top five spots on the list, which is based on factors such as cost of attendance, each program's reputation in its field, and return on investment. Other schools include California Institute of Technology, Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo.
Robert Hand, lead editor for the ranking, explains College Choice's ranking further. "Engineering is a broad term that can encompass various subfields as diverse as mechanical engineering, computer engineering, and civil engineering. The best undergraduate engineering programs will both introduce students to the various subfields and offer them the opportunity to specialize in a subfield in order to prepare them for their careers. Our 2016 ranking of undergraduate engineering programs is composed of schools that do just this rather than specializing in a particular subfield. It is also composed equally of undergraduate-only schools that specialize in engineering and large, public research universities that offer a major in engineering among many others."
