Collective Agreement Ratified at the Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport
OTTAWA, Oct. 28, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, today congratulated Securitas Transport Aviation Security Limited and the United Steelworkers (USW) Local 1976, on the ratification of their collective agreement by members working at the Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport.
"As passenger and cargo traffic increases, airports are playing a more strategic role in helping to build our nation's economy," said Minister Leitch. "Strong labour management relations and healthy work places are key to ensuring their success."
The USW union represents 625 pre-board screening officers and point leaders working at the airport. Their previous collective agreement expired on October 31, 2012.
"I am pleased that Securitas Transport Aviation Security Limited and the United Steelworkers have worked together to successfully negotiate this collective agreement," said Minister Leitch. "A negotiated agreement, like this one ratified at Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, is always in the best interest of the parties involved."
Securitas Transport Aviation Security Limited provides screening services to the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) at designated airports in Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Nunavut.
The agreement was reached with assistance from the Labour Program's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, which provides dispute resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the Canada Labour Code.
