Collaborative Economy: Vitacon invests in projects based on the concept of sharing
SAO PAULO, Sept. 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Recognized as the first Brazilian construction firm to introduce the concept of the collaborative economy to the country, Vitacon will be expanding the number of its projects based on the sharing model in its residential and commercial developments. The company's aim is to revolutionize the market, encouraging use instead of ownership.
Over the past five years, initiatives implemented by the company in its developments have been rapidly absorbed by residents. "Projects such as co-working, shared laundry, car and bike-sharing have swiftly had people's strong acceptance. We are now creating the first buildings of Residential Properties for rental, and we've also acquired Sampa Housing, the main online company for serviced apartments in Brazil," notes Vitacon CEO, Alexandre Lafer Frankel.
As he sees it, the company's next step following the collaborative economy concept is to launch the first shared apartment in Brazil. "We will have residential units at our developments, totally furnished, and that can be used by guests on a rental basis for short periods of time. The idea is that when receiving a friend who lives in another state, for example, the resident can put him up in this space," he explains.
In addition, the company will be adding new services at condominiums, such as the motorbike sharing system and tool sharing. "To get some idea, it's estimated that a simple drill, in its whole useful life, is used for only 13 minutes," Frankel points out. "It no longer makes any sense to buy this kind of item, as well as ladders or pumps for filling tires. Instead of buying equipment and leaving it stored at home for years, why not just borrow it when you need it?"
The Collaborative economy in Brazil
Unpublished research commissioned by Vitacon showed that one out of every five Brazilians has heard of collaborative or shared consumption. This percentage increases in proportion to income-level and education, reaching 42% for the A class. "This new way of thinking about, and, above all, experiencing consumption is here to stay. No question, from here on in we'll have lots of projects at Vitacon based on the concept of the collaborative economy," Frankel affirms.
In global terms, the collaborative economy is thought to be moving some US$ 110 billion per year, according to an estimate by a British consulting firm.
