Colgate-Palmolive Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month by Inspiring Latinos to Dream Big with Annual Haz la U™ Educational Grant Program
In collaboration with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, Colgate will Award $100,000 in Scholarships to Hispanic High School Seniors to Make Funding Higher Education More Attainable
NEW YORK, Sept. 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Colgate-Palmolive announced today its third annual partnership with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) to launch the company's Haz la U™ educational grant program, now in its eighth year. To promote the importance of education among Latinos and help get them on the path to higher education, Colgate will support the HHF's Youth Awards program through its community service category, which focuses on community-minded students who have demonstrated excellence in volunteerism and leadership in 10 regions across the nation, totaling up to $100,000 in grants.
Eligible students can apply for grants via Colgate.com/HazLaU through October 15, 2016. Thirty-one Hispanic high school students will be selected by the Hispanic Heritage Foundation to receive the Haz la U™ educational grants to help finance their first year of college.
"Colgate believes in the importance of preparing future generations of Latinos and giving them the tools to become leaders in their communities," said Carla Kelly, general manager of multicultural marketing, Colgate-Palmolive. "It is an honor to continue the partnership with this prestigious organization that shares our commitment to the community and values the interest in supporting Hispanic enrollment in colleges and universities through financial scholarship."
This year, to encourage more students to make their college dreams realities, Colgate is sharing a first-person video of past Haz la U™ winner Jennifer Muñoz and her story of educational success. With versions in English and Spanish, her story can be seen on Colgate's YouTube channel.
"Looking back, it's amazing what I have accomplished in a year," Muñoz said. "The Haz la U scholarship helped take a weight off my shoulders and enabled me to focus more on my studies. Now I am one year closer to becoming Dr. Muñoz!"
