SAN DIEGO, April 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Coleman University today announced the appointment of Jason Abel as vice president of academics. In this role, Abel oversees the academic operations at Coleman across all platforms to ensure a seamless and consistent student experience.
Abel's history with Coleman began in 2006, as an instructor in the Computer Information Systems department. Since then, Abel has developed and implemented curriculum and software solutions within various departments and programs to increase efficiency. This includes a review of computer information systems, an enhancement of the document management system, and a student information system deployment to improve integration with the university's financial aid system.
In 2015, Abel served as the instructional design coach on a 10-person team that developed a new, associate degree in graphic design at Coleman. He devised a course development procedure that included embedded data collection of learning outcomes. This concept-driven program, based upon applied design, provides students with specific skill sets desired by today's employers.
"Jason's extensive knowledge and experience in curriculum development and instruction will be a tremendous benefit to our students and faculty," said Norbert J. Kubilus, president and CEO, Coleman University. "He will continue to drive forward innovative curriculum and software solutions that maintain Coleman as a leading institution for technology education in the San Diego area."
Most recently, Abel held the positions of chief technology officer at Coleman. His prior positions at Coleman include director of curriculum development, interim dean of academics, associate dean of computer information sciences, and associate director of the office of instructional support. He is a member of 7CTOs™ and the Association of Information Technology Professionals.
Abel is currently developing his dissertation on the application of augmented reality as an instructional aid in the doctor of philosophy in instructional design for online learning program at Capella University. He also holds a master of science in business and technology management, a bachelor of science in computer information systems and a bachelor of science in computer network technologies, all from Coleman.
