Colby-Sawyer College Opens School of Health Professions
NEW LONDON, N.H., Sept. 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Colby-Sawyer College announced today the establishment of the Colby-Sawyer School of Health Professions. The college will launch the School of Health Professions with a formal event during Alumni Fall Festival in October, at which time it will also celebrate the 30-year anniversary of the Nursing Program and the college's partnership with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
The creation of the School of Health Professions represents a tangible manifestation of the realized and anticipated growth in the college's health professions academic programs that include Nursing and Public Health majors, as well as an R.N. to B.S completion program, and the deepening of a 30-year partnership with Dartmouth-Hitchcock in the joint conceptualization and planning of new programs. The school will be housed in McKean Hall and headed by Dr. Susan Reeves '88, chair of the Nursing and Public Health Department, associate academic dean for Dartmouth-Hitchcock Partnership Programs and the Gladys A. Burrows Distinguished Professor of Nursing.
Renovated nursing laboratory space in Colgate Hall and the dedication of McKean Hall as the home for the School of Health Professions underscores the college's commitment to current and future academic programs in the health professions; to the traditional-aged and adult students who benefit from these programs; to the faculty who challenge and mentor these students in their intellectual, professional and personal development; and to the communities whose health and well-being is improved through the work of Colby-Sawyer's graduates.
"The School of Health Professions will better position Colby-Sawyer College to inspire philanthropy for the support of education in the health professions by supporting student scholarship funds, space and equipment needs, and faculty and curriculum development in the health professions," says Thomas C. Galligan Jr., president of Colby-Sawyer College. "The School of Health Professions will enable Colby-Sawyer to further strengthen the partnership with Dartmouth-Hitchcock as we imagine the potential for cross-appointment of faculty, new collaborations on the use of space and equipment, and the provision of educational opportunities in a variety of health professions for prospective students from both traditional populations and Dartmouth-Hitchcock employee groups."
