Cokingtin Eye Center Utilizes MedInformatix Practice Management, Claims Module and E-Prescribing Module for Optimal Efficiency
Integrated Solutions Enable Practice to Grow Without Any Additional Staff - Practice Implementing Complete MedInformatix EMR in May 2012
OVERLAND PARK, Kan., April 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Cokingtin Eye Center, a three-location practice located in suburban Kansas City, utilizes multiple MedInformatix solutions including the Practice Management (PM), Electronic Claims Module, and the e-Prescribing Module, and is scheduled to implement the sophisticated MedInformatix Electronic Medical Records (EMR) solution.
Cokingtin Eye Center began usage of the MedInformatix practice management solution in 2006 in order to streamline scheduling, registration, and billing. The practice quickly saw improved efficiencies in its accounts receivable, which resulted in average payment time of 17 days by the end of 2009.
Beginning on May 1st, 2012, Cokingtin Eye Center will implement MedInformatix's EMR to enable nearly 100 percent of office functions to be electronic. In addition to meeting the goal of improving operational efficiencies, the practice also chose MedInformatix's EMR to meet Meaningful Use requirements and receive incentive payments in 2012, likely towards the late summer or early fall.
"We foresee substantial benefits using the MedInformatix EMR," said Chris Balestrieri, administrator at Cokingtin Eye Center. "Currently, our physicians work in three office locations and occasionally assist four or five other satellite locations, and can only view patient data that is specific to the individual location. Our staff has to find the chart and then fax the information to the doctor's current location. This is very limiting, and will be completely changed with the EMR, providing us with substantial cost savings in terms of reduced materials such as paper and more efficient staff. It's also a more secure solution that does not present the opportunity for introduced errors."
In 2012 Cokingtin Eye Center implemented MedInformatix's claims processing module, which involves a partnership with ZirMed, a leader in improving performance and reducing costs of the healthcare payment process. The practice now enjoys an integrated claims processing solution that allows them to run just one claim file per patient and look up EOB's from within MedInformatix. Cokingtin Eye Center staff previously needed to manually pull up backup files to find EOBs and other information. An additional benefit is the practice is now able to receive electronic remittance advice (835) files from more carriers with MedInformatix and ZirMed's technology.
Cokingtin Eye Center utilizes the MedInformatix e-prescribing module, which features a standardized medication data table and secure transmissions through SureScripts. This module allows staff members to grant refill requests with one click, a considerable time savings compared to the manual verification process used previously.
Ms. Balestrieri commented on the simplicity of customizing MedInformatix's solutions; "With the latest package release, MedInformatix has done a lot with html programming, which is a user friendly format that does not require a full-time IT staff member. It's another example of their client-centric focus which allows practices to make necessary customizations without incurring further expense."

They are exhibiting at Booth #804, from April 20th to 24th at the McCormick Place West Convention Center in Chicago. Dr. Cokingtin and other physicians at Cokingtin Eye Center will also attend the conference.
