PITTSBURGH, Nov. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Cohen & Grigsby, a business law firm with offices in Pittsburgh, PA and Naples, FL, will show its gratitude for local veterans this November by providing an interview space for them to share their stories as part of the Veterans History Project (VHP). On November 16, 2013, the firm will host veterans at its Pittsburgh headquarters (EQT Plaza, 625 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA.). During this time, court reporters, videographers and interviewers will capture and transcribe the veterans' personal wartime stories. The recorded interviews will then be stored at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress as educational resources for future generations.

"It's an honor to help play a small part in preserving the personal accounts of our nation's war heroes so that they can become an important part of our nation's history," said Jack Elliott, president and CEO of Cohen & Grigsby. "As local veterans gather at our offices to share their stories, we thank them for their service to our country and know that we can all learn from their experiences."
"Through the national Court Reporters' Association, court reporters across the country have transcribed more than 3,100 interviews of American wartime veterans for the VHP," said Marjorie Peters, Marjorie Peters Court Reporting. "In support of the first Veterans History Project Day in Pittsburgh, Cohen & Grigsby has embraced the opportunity to host veterans, volunteers and court reporters to ensure that the firsthand accounts of the men and women who served our country would not be lost. These personal interviews are a powerful educational tool, and I am proud to bring this national initiative to Pittsburgh to recognize our local veterans and to help preserve their legacy."
Family members and loved ones are welcome to attend the interviews with the veterans on November 16. Once the recorded interviews have been submitted for permanent archival in the Library of Congress, each veteran will receive a personal copy of his or her interview. In addition, the Veterans History Project website contains an individual web page for each veteran who contributes.
The United States Congress created the Veterans History Project in 2000 as part of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. VHP's mission is to collect, preserve and share the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and understand the realities of war. In addition to audio-and video-recorded oral histories of veterans, the VHP will also showcase documentary materials such as photographs and manuscripts as educational resources for Congress and the general public.
