PEARLAND, Texas, Dec. 4, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- In honor of Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 3 – Dec. 9), Code Ninjas, the nation's largest children's coding franchise, announced today the launch of a charitable initiative to raise awareness for and generate interest in computer science education this holiday season. Code Ninjas will host free Holiday Hack-A-Thons nationwide allowing for kids to explore computer programming, while also raising money for local charities and getting a chance to win prizes.
Code Ninjas will host Hack-A-Thon events at 55 participating centers across the nation on December 8 and 9 using the kid-friendly programming language, Scratch. At the event, students will pair up and go head-to-head in a friendly coding competition in honor of Computer Science Education Week. Code Senseis (instructors) will choose the top three teams at each center and recognize them with exciting prizes. The top team at each center will be voted on by Code Ninjas HQ for a chance to win coveted national prizes including a premium gaming laptop and a 3D printer for children.
In the spirit of the holidays and to encourage families to give back to their local communities, participating Code Ninjas centers will accept donations for Toys for Tots and other charities.
"We are thrilled to bring together the giving spirit of the holidays, awareness for computer science education and the fun of Code Ninjas under one roof," said David Graham, Co-Founder and CEO of Code Ninjas. "This is a unique opportunity to help bring communities together and create a rewarding experience for everyone involved."
Code Ninjas teaches children ages 7-14 to code by building their own video games in a fun, safe, and inspiring environment. With a robust, nine-belt curriculum inspired by martial arts, Code Ninjas keeps kids engaged, while parents see their children gain life-changing STEM skills.
Each Holiday Hack-A-Thon event is free, open to the public and held at participating Code Ninjas centers only.
