Coco Taps Upcycles Coconuts with Tap Back Rewards in Las Vegas
Returned Cocos and Taps Cut Customers' Carbon Footprint
LAS VEGAS, Dec. 4, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Fresh-tapped coconut supplier Coco Taps announced today it will launch a Tap Back Rewards program to encourage the return of coconuts and plastic taps for reuse. The program will launch as a pilot in 2019 for Las Vegas business customers and is the next step toward reaching Coco Taps' zero-waste goal. Coco Taps' tapping and branding facility is the first in Las Vegas to earn the TRUE (Total Resource Use and Efficiency) Zero Waste certification.
Customers Save Garbage Costs
The Tap Back Rewards program will cut waste costs for Coco Taps customers by decreasing the amount of material they send to landfill. Coco Taps customers will receive a credit for each returned tapped coconut.
Coconut shells can be upcycled as plant pots or ground into mulch for use in school gardens and farms.
"Fifth Avenue Restaurant Group is inspired by the leadership Coco Taps is taking in Las Vegas to help us reduce our company's carbon footprint," Executive Vice President of Fifth Avenue Restaurant Group Robb Bonanno said. "We are proud to be the first customer to enroll in Tap Back Rewards."
Fifth Avenue Restaurant Group operates more than 50 restaurants in the Las Vegas area.
Coco Taps Commits to Sustainability
Since its launch in 2014, Coco Taps has worked toward becoming a zero-waste company. Drinking coconut water directly from the coconuts eliminates the need for paper, plastic, metal and glass containers that go to landfills. Coco Taps has reduced its packing materials, reuses its shipping boxes and promotes the use of non-plastic straws.
"The Tap Back Rewards program is a vital step toward Coco Taps becoming a regenerative business that gives more than it takes from the planet," Coco Vinny, founder of Coco Taps, said.
Josh Prigge Helps Coco Taps Become Regenerative Business
Coco Taps recently joined forces with TRUE Advisor Josh Prigge, a Las Vegas-based sustainability consultant at Sustridge and member of the Coco Taps Regenerative Business Advisory Board.
"Coco Taps' commitment to sustainability positions it as an environmental leader to inspire other businesses to become caretakers of our community," Prigge said.
Prigge and Coco Vinny will speak at a public TRUE Zero Waste Workshop in Las Vegas on December 7. The workshop will feature Stephanie Barger, director at the U.S. Green Building Council, who will recognize Coco Taps' zero-waste accomplishments and TRUE certification. TRUE helps companies and facilities define, pursue and achieve their zero waste goals.
