Coco Taps will set up a tapping facility and train Mid Pac employees on how to prepare and tap fresh coconuts for consumers. Mid Pac is a distributor of non-alcoholic beverages, beer, wine and spirits in Guam, the Philippines, the Marshall Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia and Palau.
"Mid Pac is thrilled to introduce the first tapped coconuts at this year's Guam Live Music Festival," E. J. Calvo, Mid Pac general manager, said. "We are using the Coco Taps Tool Kit to tap and seal coconuts for easy storage and drinking for consumers. It will be the perfect treat at this all-day beach festival in Guam."
The Coco Taps Tool Kit includes a tapper tool and reusable cap for drinking directly from the coconut and storing it. Tapped and sealed coconuts can be refrigerated for more than two weeks.
"Coco Taps is excited to bring fresh tapped coconuts to Guam with Mid Pac," Vincent Zaldivar, chief coconut-in-charge of Coco Taps, said. "Our taps allow coco water fans in this part of the world to cap and seal clean coconut water in a fresh coconut for the first time."
Coconut Water Offers High Nutritional Value
Hydrating and low in sugar and calories, a one-cup serving of unpasteurized fresh coconut water contains 45.6 calories, 6.3 grams of sugar, 2.6 grams of fiber and 600 milligrams of potassium, according to the USDA (https://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/foods/show/3665?manu=&fgcd=).
"Drinking straight from a fresh tapped coco not only improves the taste and nutritional values, but it also uses less packaging and has a smaller carbon footprint than drinking packaged coconut water," Zaldivar said.
