Cobb EMC Community Foundation announces new scholarship winners
- Fourteen high school students awarded $5,000 each -
MARIETTA, Ga., May 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Cobb EMC Community Foundation recently announced this year's winners for the newly established Cobb EMC Community Foundation Scholarship. The fourteen scholarships in the amount of $5,000 each were awarded to eligible high school seniors with a primary residence served by Cobb EMC. The award can be applied to any accredited two or four-year university, college or vocational-technical school.
"My dream is to end up doing makeup for TV and film sets, the movie production is booming in Georgia," said Sarah Grace Buben, technical college recipient. "I want to use my gift to help someone feel beautiful and what's on the inside will end up shining through."
The candidates had to be accepted in an undergraduate degree program at any accredited two or four-year university or any accredited vocational or technical institute. In addition, applicants were required to complete a two-page application and write a two-page autobiographical sketch, and essay with reference to future plans and goals.
"The Technical and Vocational Scholarships provided by the Cobb EMC Community Foundation will help prepare students for careers in Georgia's rapidly expanding skilled trade industries," said Ben Hames, Deputy Commissioner for Workforce, Georgia Department of Economic Development. "With the efforts of our Go Build Georgia skilled trades initiative and this type of meaningful investment, we are ensuring that Georgia businesses have access to a skilled workforce."
A total of 215 applications were reviewed and fourteen were selected for a sum of $70,000 in scholarships.
"It's a privilege to help these deserving students succeed in life," said Chuck Bressoud, Chairman of the Cobb EMC Community Foundation. "There's no better way to ensure success than to earn a solid education."
The annual scholarship was created in late 2014 and is funded and administered by the Cobb EMC Community Foundation.
