Coastal and 3C Win Coveted Santa Barbara Cannabis Licenses
SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Aug. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Coastal, a new California cannabis brand, was awarded four commercial cannabis business licenses in Santa Barbara, CA thanks to the help of 3C Consulting, LLC, the world's leading cannabis consulting firm.
The City of Santa Barbara issued licenses to Coastal Distribution, LLC, Coastal Delivery Services, LLC, and Coastal Manufacturing, LLC on August 8. Coastal Dispensary, LLC was also awarded a retail storefront license on July 11. Each Coastal application received the highest scores among all applicants in each business category.
Santa Barbara hosts a population of just over 90,000, with a student population representing over 40% of its residents. Santa Barbara's close proximity to Los Angeles, its location on the scenic U.S. 101, and the extraordinary number of licensed cannabis cultivation businesses in the county places the city in the middle of one of the world's most promising cannabis markets.
"Thank you for all your hard work in Santa Barbara. Our applications were comprised of hundreds of pages of well-written and accurate content," said Malante Hayworth, CEO of Coastal. "So awesome guys, can't thank you enough! We could not have done this without 3C."
"Santa Barbara had a highly competitive pool of applicants. Our team worked side-by-side with Coastal around the clock to ensure their victory," said Nic Easley, CEO of 3C. "We are so happy that we could help our clients and partners in Coastal win these extremely valuable licenses. Now is the perfect time for new, licensed businesses with no prior history of bad habits to take a large share of the emerging regulated California recreational and medical markets."
"I'm extremely proud to be a member of this team," Easley continued. "To see what Coastal has achieved thus far is incredible, and knowing that Coastal has applied for and is applying for more licenses in numerous other municipalities around the state—this is just the beginning of something much larger and exciting to come."
The Santa Barbara Independent described the intensity of the City's retail storefront application review process: "Unlike any other jurisdiction in the cannabis game, Santa Barbara has created an elaborate application gauntlet in which applicants are rated. Six applicants managed to make the first cut, three on downtown State Street. Of all six, no more than three can be chosen."1
The City conducted a thorough review of all applicants over the course of three months, including a multi-phased scoring process, public hearings, and site walkthroughs.
According to an article following the award announcement, "Anthony Wagner of the Santa Barbara Police Department — a key player in the selection process — stated the selection process was 'so painstakingly meticulous it can withstand any scrutiny."2
Paul Casey, the Santa Barbara City Administrator, said, "Coastal Dispensary edged out [the competition] in the final scoring…"3
