Coalition of Business Leaders Commit to Fight Bay Area Poverty
Box, Dropbox, Google, IfOnly, Jawbone, LinkedIn, POPSUGAR, Inc. and Zynga join salesforce.com in efforts to raise $10 million for Tipping Point Community
SAN FRANCISCO, March 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Tipping Point Community, the Bay Area's leading poverty-fighting organization since 2005, today announced the launch of SF Gives -- a $10 million fund created by a coalition of business and tech industry leaders to fight poverty in the San Francisco Bay Area. Already, more than $5 million has been committed.
Initiated by salesforce.com Chairman and CEO Marc Benioff and the Salesforce.com Foundation, SF Gives aims to build a coalition of 20 companies willing to commit at least $500,000 each to the fight against poverty, raising $10 million. Box, Dropbox, Google, IfOnly, Jawbone, LinkedIn, POPSUGAR, Inc. and Zynga have already joined salesforce.com as founding members of the campaign. SF Gives will spearhead efforts to break the cycle of poverty by providing access to jobs, housing, education and health care in the Bay Area.
"We each have a role to play in shaping the future of our city," said Daniel Lurie, CEO + Founder of Tipping Point. "I am inspired that leading Bay Area companies are coming together to invest in the lives of our most vulnerable residents. I hope their actions prompt other companies and individuals to consider how they give back to our community, where 1 in 5 people live in poverty."
"We are thrilled to be working with San Francisco's technology community and Tipping Point to help fight poverty in the Bay Area," said Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO, salesforce.com. "The SF Gives challenge builds on salesforce.com's commitment to giving back to the Bay Area community that has given us so much since our founding here 15 years ago."
