C.N. Brown Company Raises Nearly $130,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association
Local CITGO Marketer Strengthens Community with Fall 2013 Fundraising Events
SOUTH PARIS, Maine, Nov. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Over the last 28 years, local CITGO Marketer C.N. Brown Company has donated nearly $4.5 million through company-sponsored events to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), becoming one of the largest supporters within the CITGO network. This fall, C.N. Brown celebrated its 26th Annual MDA Golf Tournament and its most fruitful fall mobile program to date, which combined raised nearly $130,000 for MDA programs throughout Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Vermont.
In September, nearly 140 guests competed in C.N. Brown's 26th Annual MDA Golf Tournament held at Springbrook Golf Club in Leeds, Maine. This year, C.N. Brown and its event co-sponsors from the local community raised approximately $35,000 for MDA.
"We had to push the tournament back to September due to the huge amount of rainfall we had in August, and it was still an incredible success. We are so happy to be able to give back to our community in such a meaningful way. It is wonderful to have such dedicated vendors and business partners who are willing to come out in support of such a great cause," said Jinger Duryea, president of C.N. Brown Company.
The partnership between CITGO and C.N. Brown has not only joined two brands dedicated to providing fuel to their customers and growing local jobs in their communities but, more importantly, has also combined the power of two entities committed to good works and to helping MDA families with the cost of treatment, medical equipment, clinics and support groups.
From Sept. 1 through Oct. 14, C.N. Brown sold $1 paper apple mobiles at Big Apple Food Stores locations across the state of Maine. The six-week "Apple of Our Eye" promotion, which raised more than $91,000 in donations for MDA, was the most successful mobile campaign C.N. Brown has ever held. Throughout the mobile program, C.N. Brown received thousands of generous donations, and customers were automatically entered into a raffle for a chance to win one of 25 Apple II iPads.
Duryea explained, "As a family-owned business, we rely on the support of our friends and neighbors. The patients whose lives we can change through these kinds of events in support of MDA also depend on their families and neighbors—and every little bit we can help goes a long way. Thank you to the CITGO Fueling Good team who helped us kick-off the promotion earlier this fall."
Since 1948, C.N. Brown Company has provided quality products, employment opportunities and community support across New England. As the owner of Big Apple Food Stores, Red Shield heating oil locations and independently operated gasoline stations across Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts, the locally owned, family business plays an important role in the communities it serves. The more than 900 C.N. Brown Company employees are also committed to fueling good by supporting of a wide range of charitable and community programs.
As MDA's largest corporate sponsor, CITGO has raised more than $160 million since 1986 to help provide health care services for MDA families nationwide and to rally local communities to raise awareness and help find treatments and cures for neuromuscular disease.
