ClubCorp's Las Colinas Country Club To Serve As Site Of North Texas LPGA Shootout
Tournament Marks the Tour's First Visit to North Texas Region in More Than 20 Years
DALLAS, Feb. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- ClubCorp, The World Leader in Private Clubs, proudly announces today that Las Colinas Country Club in Irving will serve as the site of the North Texas LPGA Shootout to be held April 25-28, 2013. The tournament marks a return to the North Texas region by the LPGA after a 20-year absence and the first stop in the state since the 2009 LPGA Tour Championship Presented by Rolex, which was played outside Houston.
"We are truly thrilled to return to the great state of Texas and to bring the LPGA Tour back to a region where we have a great history and passionate fans," said LPGA Commissioner Michael Whan. "It makes sense for the LPGA to be in North Texas and we look forward to showing golf fans in the region why it's different on the LPGA."
The North Texas LPGA Shootout, offering a $1.3 million purse, will host a full field of 144 players playing 72 holes of stroke play over four days of competition. Introducing a unique format, the tournament will invite local amateur players in the area to earn spots in the field by qualifying, and will also include 'shootouts' among North Texas high school and regional female college players. Tournament proceeds will benefit The Nexus Club, which primarily supports and raises funds for the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf in North Texas.
"We are very excited that Las Colinas has been chosen as the site of the North Texas LPGA Shootout. ClubCorp operates more clubs and more holes of golf in the Dallas-Fort Worth area than any other operator, so it is fitting this great event be held at one of our clubs," said Eric Affeldt, ClubCorp president and CEO. "ClubCorp also is strongly committed to growing the game of golf among women and juniors so we take great pride in supporting the LPGA in this tournament – as well as the Kraft Nabisco Championship at Mission Hills – and their efforts to spotlight local amateurs in the event."
"Las Colinas Country Club's Board of Governors and the members are thrilled the club has been selected as the site of this tournament," said Ron Woolard, Las Colinas general manager. "We are proud to welcome the LPGA players to North Texas and to showcase our great club, now celebrating 50 years of service to our members and the Irving community."
For the last two years, Las Colinas Country Club has served as the site of the annual George W. Bush Presidential Center's Warrior Open for retired and active duty military. Other notable tournaments held at clubs in the ClubCorp family include the LPGA Kraft Nabisco Championship at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California; the World Golf Championships – Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio; and the Web.com Tour Midwest Golf Classic Presented by Cadillac at Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate in Overland Park, Kansas.
