Mike Miller to present 'Moving Beyond the NoSQL Debate: Introducing the Application Data Layer'

BOSTON, Aug. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Cloudant today announced that Co-Founder and Chief Scientist Mike Miller will be presenting "Moving Beyond the NoSQL Debate: Introducing the Application Data Layer" at next week's NoSQL Now! conference, held August 21-23, 2012, at the San Jose Convention Center.

NoSQL Now! is designed to educate developers, data managers and architects on the emerging NoSQL field, how these new technologies work, the applications they are best suited for, and how to deploy them. The first NoSQL Now! event in August 2011 attracted over 500 people, and the upcoming 2012 event is expected to draw almost 1,000 attendees.

Who: Mike Miller, in addition to his role as an affiliate professor of Particle Physics at University of Washington in Seattle, Wash., he is one of three MIT physicists who founded Cloudant in 2008. As members of the renowned Large Hadron Collider project at CERN, the co-founders worked with multi-petabyte data sets for high-energy particle physics research and grew frustrated by the available tools for managing and analyzing big data in their research. As a result, they designed the NoSQL-based technology that now serves as the basis for Cloudant's data layer as a service, which enables application developers to completely offload their data layer requirements to focus resources on developing applications and not managing the database.

What: The half-hour presentation, "Moving Beyond the NoSQL Debate: Introducing the Application Data Layer," will address the wide adoption of hosted commodity hardware, NoSQL, REST, HTML5, and D3. Miller will discuss the application data layer and the advantages of bringing database and applications to the edge. With two years in production at the largest scale, Cloudant will highlight customer use cases ranging from hyper-growth startups through Fortune 100 companies.
