Cloudability Extends Technology Leadership With Azure Rightsizing Recommendations
Enterprises On Either AWS Or Azure Can Now Build And Scale Their Cloud Infrastructure Tightly Around Their Needs
PORTLAND, Ore., Feb. 21, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Cloudability, the True Cost™ cloud management platform, announced today the launch of Rightsizing Recommendations for Azure. A popular and broadly adopted feature for AWS users since it launched last year, Rightsizing Recommendations helps enterprises optimize cost by providing pertinent information on how they can build and scale their cloud infrastructure tightly around their needs, so that they only provision the resources their business will actually use. With today's launch, Cloudability Rightsizing Recommendations is now available for enterprises using either AWS or Azure as their primary public cloud provider or as part of a multi-cloud environment.
Rightsizing for Azure is designed to bring a new level of transparency, control, efficiency, and elasticity into the Azure cloud compute environment. With Cloudability's Rightsizing, enterprises gain a view into how they are using their cloud resources over time and into key utilization metrics per resource. They can then evaluate the multiple recommendation scenarios based on the associated risk and savings. Cloudability generates recommendation risk by a blend of statistical models and proprietary algorithms, each based on Cloudability's massive underlying cross-ecosystem data set.
"One of the biggest reasons companies move to the cloud is to save time and money. But what often happens is the migration creates new resource utilization complexities. So something that was initially well-intentioned can pretty quickly lead to cost overruns and headaches if it's not managed right," said Patrick Philips, Director of Data Science, Cloudability. "With Rightsizing Recommendations, we put the power back into the hands of enterprise DevOps teams, giving them insight into risk versus reward tradeoffs and helping them to take actions that best suit their resource demands."
Major features and functionality of Cloudability Rightsizing Recommendations include:
Statistical modeling, rich datasets and proprietary risk measurement algorithms: Cloudability Rightsizing approaches resource utilization through the lens of a predetermined length of time (suggested as 10 days). It then creates a statistical model around the resource utilization taking into account peak utilization periods. Having a massive cross-customer and cross-ecosystem data pool to work with, Cloudability has high confidence in determining performance characteristics across instance families and instance types, even between geographic regions. Cloudability Rightsizing also leverages its own proprietary algorithms to rank risk between different resource utilization options.
Visual representation: Cloudability offers a graphical representation to assess the recommendation risk by enabling companies to overlay on their current workload utilization the applicable instance types and their anticipated performance. For compute resources for example, all four key metrics of utilization, namely CPU, disk (for instance types with local disk), memory, and bandwidth, are available per resource. The ability to cycle through each recommendation against the actual resource utilization, allows you to visually inspect the headroom and potential for clipping ahead of actioning game-changing rightsizing initiatives.
Recommendations: Cloudability provides multiple recommendations. Since each business in its customer portfolio has different needs in terms of specific resources they can use, Cloudability surfaces the top recommendation for each resource and arranges the remaining recommendations to show which next highest savings options are available with some additional risk.
