DENVER, Oct. 16, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Healthcare Learning Innovations today announced that it will participate in the 7th Annual Northeastern Interprofessional SimWARS Competition and Symposium, an event where clinical interdisciplinary healthcare teams compete against each other to solve clinical problems in simulated patient scenarios. The event will be held on November 1, 2018 at Saint Barnabas Medical Center - RWJBarnabas Health in Livingston, New Jersey. A panel of experts and the audience will determine the winner.
In addition to the competition, industry experts will discuss simulation in healthcare education. Mary G. Turco, EdD, Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Department of Medicine Dartmouth-Hitchcock and Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, will deliver the keynote address. Brian Gravel, Director of Channel Partnerships at Healthcare Learning Innovations, will present the organization's Patient Management and Delegation simulation. The virtual nursing scenario includes assignments that nurse educators as well as hospital educators can use to help students and working nurses experience patient and resource management situations that Charge Nurses encounter.
"Online simulations are being recognized as an effective, valuable tool in healthcare education," said Gravel, who is a 25-year veteran of the educational media and higher education industries. "I think that the spirit of this event reflects the excitement all of us in the community feel as we develop resources addressing challenges such as finding clinical placements and practicing decision-making skills with no risk to patients."
In November of 2017, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) said that it encourages innovative practices, including the use of simulation, so long as there is also direct-care clinical practice experience.
