Climate Savers Computing Releases Guidelines for Comparing Energy Efficiency of Networking Platforms
Expands Product Catalog to include vendor networking products that meet CSCI specifications for energy efficiency
PORTLAND, Ore., Dec. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Climate Savers Computing Initiative (CSCI), the 700-member global consortium focused on reducing the energy consumption and carbon footprint of information and communications technologies (ICT), today announced the release of the Energy Efficiency Guide for Networking Devices (EEG). This white paper is the third in a three-part series of papers developed by the CSCI Networking Workgroup and is designed to provide network design and procurement teams with best practices and standardized metrics for evaluating vendor products for energy efficiency.
The EEG has been developed by CSCI members from Cisco, Broadcom Corporation, Intel and Juniper Networks and discusses practical aspects of energy efficiency from the perspectives of operational management and vendor and product selection. Additionally, the paper outlines how CSCI is expanding its Product Catalog of energy efficient computing technologies to include networking devices and introduces a standard disclosure document vendors must complete to have products listed. This disclosure approach emphasizes standardized metrics for comparing energy efficiency of networking products, helping to streamline the RFP and procurement processes.
"The Energy Efficiency Guide for Networking Devices has been developed by global leaders in the networking industry to provide network design and procurement teams with a comprehensive tool for meeting sustainability goals and regulatory requirements for emissions reduction through improved network energy efficiency," said George O. Goodman, executive director, CSCI.
The Energy Efficiency Guide for Networking Devices is available for download at http://bit.ly/sbOoYk. Networking vendors interested in submitting products for inclusion in the CSCI Product Catalog may do so from the CSCI website beginning in early 1Q12.
