Climate Savers Computing Announces 2012 Leadership and Focus Areas

PORTLAND, Ore., Jan. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Climate Savers Computing Initiative (CSCI), the 700-member global consortium focused on reducing the energy consumption and carbon footprint of information and communications technologies (ICT), today announced that its 2012 Board of Directors consists of representatives from Cisco, Emerson Network Power, Google, Intel, Juniper Networks, Microsoft, Samsung Semiconductor and World Wildlife Fund.  

Lorie Wigle, general manager, Eco Technology, Intel, has been elected by the board to lead CSCI as president for a fourth consecutive term in 2012. Joining Wigle in officer positions are David Jacobowitz, industry alliance program manager, data center operations, Google, elected to serve as vice president, and Sylvie R. Kadivar, Ph.D., director, DRAM Strategic Marketing, Samsung Semiconductor, Inc., elected to serve as secretary.  

This year CSCI is working to increase the well over $2 billion in annual energy costs it has helped the global ICT industry save by decreasing annual CO2 emissions from computing equipment by 41 – 45 million metric tons. CSCI will do this by continuing to drive the use of power management on laptops, PCs and servers, and through the development and deployment of more energy efficient computing technologies. CSCI is also focusing on helping enterprises design, procure and manage networks that are optimized for energy efficiency, and is taking a leadership role in helping to ensure the next generation of public and private clouds are built using sustainable ICT and energy efficient power supplies.
