Cleveland Woman Recognized with National Caregiving Award
Special caregiving approach lands CAREGiver(SM) top honors for outstanding service to seniors
CLEVELAND, July 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Jeannie Cleary-Burns was recently recognized nationally for her outstanding service through the 2013 Mary Steibel CAREGiverSM of the Year Award. This is the highest honor given annually by Home Instead Senior Care®, the leading global provider of nonmedical, in-home care for seniors.
Cleary-Burns, who was selected among more than 65,000 CAREGivers representing more than 650 North American franchises for the award, takes a special approach to caregiving that enhances the lives not just for seniors she serves, but also their families.
"Jeannie embodies the true spirit of caregiving," said Scott Radcliff, president of the Home Instead Oakwood Village franchise (serving Cleveland, Ohio) where Jeannie works. "She gives freely from her heart, caring for others like they're family. She provides an endless source of emotional support that helps families thrive even when facing health and other challenges their loved one is experiencing."
Cleary-Burns' passion for caregiving is demonstrated by the individualized care she provides. She tailors her services to her clients' interests and personalities, working closely with them and family members to determine how to best meet their needs while treating all involved with the utmost dignity and respect. Throughout her longstanding career, Cleary-Burns has also received countless letters from client family members expressing deep gratitude and thanks for helping them reconnect with their loved ones.
"Jeannie showed me what happens when you stop focusing on problems and focus more on creating opportunities for joy," said Jan Thorpe, the daughter of one of Jeannie's clients. "My cherished mom may seem more remote at times, but now I know if I look beyond the problems I can still find her."
Cleary-Burns is also a role model for her colleagues, authoring the booklet "CAREGiver to CAREGiver: Thoughts, Quotes and Inspiration" and establishing a mentoring program to ensure her fellow CAREGivers have the support they need to provide Home Instead clients with the highest standards of care. She additionally recently volunteered to help establish a bereavement support program for CAREGivers mourning the loss of their clients.
Cleary-Burns received the 2013 CAREGiver of the Year Award at the Home Instead annual international convention in Omaha, Neb. For more information on this program, visit http://www.homeinstead.com/CAREGIVER/EMPLOYER/Pages/meet_caregivers.aspx.
