DALLAS, Nov. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- In a nationwide climate of still-stagnant bar exam scores, bar review leader, BARBRI, and Cleveland State University's Cleveland-Marshall College of Law have partnered to bolster student success and produce exceptional bar exam first-time pass rates.
Cleveland-Marshall College of Law achieved an outstanding 93 percent pass rate for its first-time takers of the July Ohio Bar Exam, well above the state average of 79 percent and five percentage points higher than any other Ohio law school. This marks the second straight bar exam in which Cleveland-Marshall leads the state.
Much of the student success can be attributed to a unique relationship established between BARBRI and Cleveland-Marshall in 2012. Through the partnership, all law students – 1L and beyond – have access to BARBRI's award-winning bar review content through books, lectures and online tools. The school's faculty and administration leverage BARBRI to track student progress throughout bar preparation and focus remediation and mentoring efforts as needed.
The partnership has produced multiple dividends in terms of more student success, a more well-rounded and in-depth learning experience, and now higher bar exam pass rates compared to peers and the Ohio state average.
"We're exceptionally pleased with the results of our graduates over the last two bar exams," said C|M|LAW Dean Lee Fisher. "Our commitment is to give our law students every opportunity for success. Helping them prepare for the bar exam is a critical part of that effort. Passing the bar exam their first time allows our graduates to move quickly to successful law careers. BARBRI, and our supportive and engaged faculty, have enabled them to do that."
"In today's climate, innovation from providers like BARBRI and law schools is critical to fostering student success," added BARBRI President Mike Sims. "We've worked closely with Cleveland-Marshall faculty and administration to ensure we were meeting the needs of students to position them for first-time bar exam success. The scores are validation that our approach is working and we congratulate Cleveland-Marshall and these students for their success."
