WASHINGTON, June 28, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- ClearPath Action Fund is proud to issue its inaugural U.S. House endorsement to Rep. Carlos Curbelo for another term representing Florida's 26th Congressional district and will back his campaign starting with a six-figure digital media effort to highlight his clean energy credentials.
During his first two years in Congress, Curbelo has become a leading voice on promoting innovative solutions to spur clean energy and conservation.
"Carlos Curbelo has quickly proven to be a leader among Republicans in protecting the environment and expanding the development of clean energy, lowering energy costs for families, creating jobs and protecting South Florida's environment," ClearPath Action Fund Founder and CEO Jay Faison said. "We're excited to help ensure that he remains a central figure in Congress in promoting thoughtful and sensible solutions."
And new polling underscores his message is resonating back home.
Nearly 60 percent of independent voters would support Curbelo over any of his prospective Democratic challengers after they learned he is "fighting for clean energy solutions that will reduce energy costs for the average American family, promote American industry, and create new sustainable jobs for Floridians," according to a survey by Olive Tree Strategies and commissioned by ClearPath Action Fund. That strong showing among independents also came after hearing Curbelo "has been a leading Republican voice in Washington, D.C., on addressing climate change."
More than a quarter of those surveyed in Curbelo's district, comprised of the Florida Keys and part of Miami-Dade County, identified environmental and energy issues as one of their top voting priorities. And majorities are more likely to vote for him when they learn about his positions on clean energy, the survey found.
Among Curbelo's notable actions:
- Supported increasing funding for the Energy Department's advanced energy research program, known as ARPAE, which is designed to unlock industrychanging technologies and create the next-generation of energy jobs.
- Successfully argued on the House floor to amend legislation stating that "increasing investment in clean energy technology and energy efficiency will lower energy prices, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase national security."
- Sponsored legislation backed by 46 House lawmakers in both parties – to better ensure the recovery of cleanup costs and other damages tied to oil spills that occur in foreign waters but that affect U.S. waters, including off the coast of Florida.
- Supported the POWER Act, expanding tax credits for combined heat and power systems, waste heat to power and other advanced clean energy power generation.
He has also heralded sensible policies and meaningful action across party lines toward mitigating the effects of climate change, which threatens sea-level rise and other impacts of special significance to South Florida.
"To view climate change through partisan lenses only detracts from efforts to discover practical solutions," Curbelo said in an op-ed last October. "Instead, it should consist of a constructive dialogue focusing on the implementation of policies that encourage the growth and development of clean alternative energy sources that will complement traditional ones."
He was one of 11 original House Republican supporters of a resolution acknowledging "the consequences of a changing climate" and citing the responsibility of Congress to identify and support "economically viable, and broadly supported private and public solutions."
Unlike traditional independent expenditure campaigns, ClearPath Action Fund is taking a different, innovative "digital-first" approach that will analytically prove what messages are and aren't working with voters, based on rigorous experimental design. The campaigns will rely on a new ID model that identifies swing voters and micro-targets them with an integrated and precise multiplatform approach using digital, TV and social media.
The bilingual digital campaign, which will be run by Anthro, will include buys on many digital networks, including Facebook, Google, Twitter, SpotX and 4info. It will leverage a sophisticated microtargeting and test design strategy to segment persuadable clean energy voters by state and district.
