Cleantech Group and the Guardian to Close Nominations for Second Annual Global Cleantech 100 in One Week
Prestigious list that recognizes innovative companies making strides in clean technology; deadline to apply is July 14
SAN FRANCISCO, July 6 /PRNewswire/ --The Cleantech Group, the leading global research, events and advisory firm focused on cleantech innovation, in partnership with the Guardian newspaper, is taking submissions now through July 14, 2010 for the Global Cleantech 100. The winners of the second Global Cleantech 100 will be revealed during Cleantech Forum XXVIII in New York on October 13, 2010 and in a supplemental section of the Guardian in London on the same day.
Now in its second year, Global Cleantech 100 is the first and only program to systematically uncover and honor the most promising clean technology companies from around the planet. Identifying those companies' most likely to achieve high growth and high market impact, according to the world's cleantech community.
The list of 100 private companies will be derived from nominations, Cleantech Group research, and the collective opinion of hundreds of leading investors, corporations and cleantech insiders in EMEA, North America, India and China. This information combined with the specific input of an expert panel reflects the combined wisdom of the international cleantech community.
"Cleantech innovation is a global phenomenon. We are looking for trailblazing companies from all over the world," said Sheeraz Haji, president of Cleantech Group, "We want to recognize companies on the forefront of clean technology innovations, 'with inventive solutions that exemplify what we think of as 'clean technology.'"
To be considered for the Global Cleantech 100, companies must be independent, for-profit companies that are not listed on any major stock exchange. The 2010 list will replace names such as A123 Systems, Solel Systems and Tesla Motors, all of which were named on the list in 2009 and have since gone public. A comprehensive list of last year's Global Cleantech 100 can be viewed online at the Guardian.co.uk.
The nominations phase is used to assemble and rank several thousands of candidates and will provide a shortlist of 200 for the expert panel to reduce to a final 100. Nominations are passive and active and will come from a variety of sources. Companies can actively nominate themselves or be nominated by other individuals or agents so long as they vote for two other companies that they admire and are not associated with. Passive nominations are derived from analyzing a wealth of market data, taking votes of confidence in a company's ability to achieve high growth and high market impact , which include:
- Investor backing (companies that have raised more than $1 million in the last three years
- Major partnerships (companies who have established significant partnerships with major industry players
- Third-party awards and rankings
The methodology is designed to ensure a final list that is representative of broad cleantech and global innovation – across company type, geography, sector and stage. To counter commercial bias, all nominations (including those from panelists) must conform to the following principle: for every company nomination made for which there is an association between nominee (company) and the nominator (individual), a nomination of two other companies without association must also be cast. To counter geographical and sector bias, nominations are weighted by their proportionality in cleantech.
"While we accept no list of global cleantech companies could be perfect," commented Richard Youngman, VP, Global Research, "the well-rounded Global Cleantech 100 acts as a unique and powerful annual barometer reading of how the global innovation community's views on which companies and types of companies are most likely to have big commercial impact, shift year to year."
Nominations can be submitted on the Global Cleantech 100 site. For a copy please of your submission please email [email protected].
