Clean Diesel Technologies, Inc. to Supply over $1.0 Million in Emission Control Products for the Retrofitting of Texas School Buses
VENTURA, Calif., May 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Clean Diesel Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:CDTI) ("Clean Diesel"), a cleantech emissions control company, announced today that its Heavy Duty Diesel Systems division has received orders in excess of $1.0 million for the retrofit of over 100 school buses in the State of Texas. Retrofitting is expected to begin next month and complete in July.
The school buses will be retrofit using Clean Diesel's Purifilter® Plus emission control system. Purifilter® Plus reduces diesel particulate matter by more than 85% and is ideally suited for the retrofit of school buses providing a simple plug-in regeneration that can be executed mid-day, resulting in minimal interruption to a typical school bus schedule. This hybrid diesel particulate filter system employs both passive and active regeneration and is verified by the Environmental Protection Agency and California Air Resources Board.
Like California and a number of other states, Texas is serious about improving the air quality for its residents, and reducing harmful emissions from school buses is an important step in reducing children's exposure to harmful effects of toxic particulate matter emissions. According to the Texas Education Agency, more than 33% of local school bus fleets are more than 10 years old. In the years since these vehicles were purchased, several advancements in vehicle and engine technology have helped reduce emissions from school buses, which helps reduce air pollution. Retrofitting of these older school buses has been supported by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (www.tceq.texas.gov), through the implementation of the Texas Clean School Bus Grant Program.
