Clean Diesel Technologies, Inc. Receives Expanded EPA Verification for Key Emission Control System

VENTURA, Calif., May 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Clean Diesel Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:CDTI) ("Clean Diesel" or the "Company"), a cleantech emissions control company, is pleased to announce that it has received an expanded verification from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its innovative ECS-branded Purifilter® Plus diesel particulate filter (DPF) emission reduction system. Purifilter® Plus, featuring Clean Diesel's proprietary MPC® catalyst technology, is the only hybrid DPF system employing both passive and active regeneration that the EPA has verified for use in its engine retrofit programs.

With this expanded verification, Purifilter® Plus is now approved for the retrofitting of a vast majority of 1994 to 2010 on-road vehicle exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and non-EGR engines.  These vehicles may include school, shuttle and urban buses, municipal, state and utility fleet vehicles, refuse trucks and urban delivery vehicles, all of which are candidates for the EPA's National Clean Diesel Campaign and State and Municipal programs aimed at lower emissions from the nation's aging diesel fleet.

Additional Verifications Being Sought from CARB

Clean Diesel offers the largest combined portfolio of EPA- and California Air Resources Board (CARB)-verified diesel retrofit solutions, with additional products currently in the evaluation process. These pending verifications include retrofit products pertaining to the current CARB Truck and Bus Regulation, a mandatory program established to meet federally imposed clean air standards and to reduce the adverse health effects from truck and bus pollution. The Company estimates the regulation will require over 100,000 heavy duty diesel trucks to be replaced or retrofitted by the CARB deadline of 2016, with the majority by 2014.
