Clayton Consultants' Kidnap Response Expert to Present at APIG National Conference
Joined By Freelance Journalist and Former Kidnap Victim Nigel Brennan
HERNDON, Va., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- With kidnap risks increasing for Australians working abroad, Clayton Consultants, a global risk and crisis management consultancy, today announced its participation at the Australian Professional Indemnity Group's (APIG) National Conference and Gala Dinner, to be held on Sept. 6 in Sydney, Australia.
Bill Bestic, a kidnap response consultant for Clayton Consultants, will lead a session together with Nigel Brennan, an Australian freelance journalist who was held hostage in Somalia for over a year.
Brennan was kidnapped on his way to a refugee camp just outside the Somali capital of Mogadishu, and held hostage for 462 days. To secure his release, his family sold off their most valuable possessions in order to raise the required ransom. His survival was miraculous, but the legacy of debt, family hardship and mental anguish remains.
"Kidnap risks are steadily increasing around the world, particularly for those working abroad in the extraction, infrastructure, nonprofit and journalism industries," said Armand Gadoury, managing director for Clayton Consultants. "This session will explore the Brennan family's situation and how difficult life can be with only limited access to the funds, expertise and resources needed in a hostage situation."
Entitled, "Kidnap and Ransom: Lessons of the Hostage, the Negotiator and the Ensuing Liabilities for Companies," the session will be facilitated by Tracie Thompson, global manager of crisis management at Chartis, who will also provide insight into kidnap and ransom insurance cover.
Specializing in the prevention and resolution of kidnaps for ransom, Clayton Consultants provides crisis management, security and risk consulting services to clients across the globe. Chartis utilizes Clayton Consultants for the training and management of kidnap-for-ransom, extortion, malicious product tampering and wrongful detention incidents covered by their commercial insurance policies.
The APIG National Conference will provide attendees with the opportunity to learn more about the latest issues relating to professional indemnity, financial lines and directors' and officers' insurance.
