Clark School Cracks U.S. News Top 20

University of Maryland Engineering School Enters the Ranks of the Nation's Best

COLLEGE PARK, Md., Aug. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In the U.S. News & World Report 2011 edition of "America's Best Colleges" released yesterday, the undergraduate program of the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park, was ranked 19th in the nation among all engineering programs.  This marks the school's first Top 20 position for undergraduate engineering education.  

Among public undergraduate engineering programs, the Clark School ranked 9th, also the first time it has entered the Top 10 in the public school category.

In the 2009-2010 school year, Clark School undergraduates won some of the nation's most prestigious scholarships, including the Truman, Udall and Goldwater awards.  Student teams took first place in national design competitions for high-altitude ballooning, bioethics, rocket design, lunar flying vehicle design, wing design and morphing space suit design. Individual students captured research fellowships at major government and private laboratories. In the nationally recognized Hinman CEOs program, student teams formed companies to produce and market their inventions.  The school's chapter of Engineers Without Borders, which currently runs projects in Burkina Faso, Peru and Brazil, was recognized for its quality by a national examiners' council.
