WASHINGTON, July 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Clark Hill announced today that two prominent environmental law attorneys, Karen C. Bennett and William J. Walsh, have joined the firm's Environment, Energy & Natural Resources Practice Group in its Washington, D.C. office.
"Clark Hill continues its success in landing both high profile environmental matters and top-flight practitioners. This prestige has increased the attraction of being part of our growing team," said Ken von Schaumburg, Chair of Clark Hill's national Environment, Energy & Natural Resources Practice Group. "Karen Bennett is recognized as one of the most knowledgeable and respected strategists in the mining industry, with expertise in complex project development in the face of multi-front regulatory hurdles and public scrutiny," he added. "Chambers USA-ranked Bill Walsh joins the firm at a critical time in the history of chemical regulation - which affects every manufacturing and production sector. Well-known for advising trade associations and industry clients on an array of environmental laws, Bill will focus on the newly amended Toxic Substance and Control Act ("TSCA"), and business risks related to regulations to be promulgated by the US Environmental Protection Agency. We are delighted to have Karen and Bill as part of our growing national environmental presence."
"Clark Hill is a leader among Am Law 200 firms, with the expertise necessary to tackle today's sophisticated environmental challenges on behalf of clients throughout the country," said Charlie Spies, head of Clark Hill's Washington D.C. office. "Karen and Bill bring significant knowledge of the natural resource development, chemical, and manufacturing industries to the firm, expanding the capabilities of our already established national environmental practice as well as solidifying our environmental policy expertise here in D.C.," he added. "Their extensive experience will greatly benefit our existing clients, and will set us apart from the competition at a time when the legal and regulatory world is undergoing fundamental changes."
Bennett's practice includes a wide range of permitting, regulatory compliance and enforcement, and litigation matters impacting mining, energy development and other industry sectors.
Prior to entering private practice, she was Vice President for Environmental Affairs at the National Mining Association (NMA), the Washington, D.C. based trade association that represents the mining industry. Bennett earned her J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law and a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin.
Walsh principally focuses his practice in the areas of government policy advocacy, regulatory compliance and counseling, science policy issues, and environmental litigation. He advises companies and industry trade associations on compliance with a wide range of environmental laws and assists in identifying and mitigating business risks associated with product safety and chemical ingredient regulations.
Walsh, who is listed in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business, served as the chief of the EPA's Drinking Water and Wetlands Enforcement Branch before entering private practice. Walsh earned his J.D. from the George Washington University Law School and B.S. from Manhattan College.
